Kapa Haka Festival

We have been practising for the kapa haka festival pretty much all year. We finally did it today. I was in the front row so we had to wear these pew pew things and we had to put on some black undies cause that's we wore underneath it. I felt kinda nervous, but also excited.

In the morning we got our mokos on and tried not to smage them up. Then we got on the bus and went to where the festival was. After that we the front row boys and girls got their pew pews on and got in our rows. oce we did that it was time to preform. We got on stage I could see people everywhere and boom we were singing away. It got to the part where the boys moved to the front and did the haka. We did the haka and then we sang a few more songs and got off the stage. 

We waited for the wai and nui to do their performances. It started to hurt though because we were sitting down for ages At the end our hole school sang our school song. Then we got back to see our parents and stuff like that. We got on the bus and started heading back to school.

Milos Term Round Up

 Lets just say this term has been pretty fun. We have just moved into the hall to so that has been pretty crazy but we are all set now so that's good. This friday is a teachers only day too so that means that there is only 4 days in this week and it's the last week so that means it's the holidays more early than it usually would be.

That means that there's only 3 more days until the holidays because today is monday and we only have till Thursday. On Wednesday (i'm pretty sure) we have a fundraiser thing and you get an ice cream but you have to pay 3 dollars to get one. I hope its a hot day on that day because it will be way better when it's a hot day and it will cool me down.

  We have speeches coming up though and i hate speeches they suck. I'm not sure what im gonna do mine about yet though but ill guess i will have to wait and see what i pick. So overall i think this term has been pretty crazy because all of the moving into the hall stuff. It feels pretty weird being in the hall too but oh well, i will have to get used to it i guess. That's the end of this blog today.

Pihitia Farm Visit

Today our hole syndicate went to a farm called Pihitia Farm ( i think it's called that). We got there by a bus. There was a few animals there such as Cows, Sheep and lamb. We even saw a lamb get chopped up and stuff, it may sound gross to you but trust me it was cool. 

We also got too see a cow get milked. There was this jar there too and the jar had some milk in it, and if you shook it for long enough it eventually turns into butter. Pretty cool right? Another thing we got to see was Sheep ( or lamb i don't really know) get herded by some dogs.

That's all i can remember on the trip. I dont think theres any photos of it otherwise i would probably put some on here.

Making An Ice Cream Sunday

 Last week in our writing group we made ice cream sundays. First we had to make up our own recipes and stuff. We didn't know we were actually making ice creams though we thought it was just the writing and that's it. The rugby boys and the netball girls had a game that day so we gotta do it early.

Some of the kids forgot to add a spoon in though so they only were able to eat with their fingers. Luckily i added in a spoon because otherwise i would've had to eat with my fingers. The thing that i did forget though is the marshmallows. They were originally wafers but i forgot those anyway. 

After we had all of our ice creams it was time to go back to class. So that's it for today i hope you enjoyed this blog    

Beach

 Today for our LTP (Learning Through Play) we went to the beach. I don't really know why we went there instead of our normal learning through play but i don't really care i enjoyed it.

 Heaps of people dag holes and built sand castles or even made sand cultures. All i did was just pretty much skim rocks most of the time with my friend Jackson. The other time Jackson and i just looked at everyone else's creations.

Then we had to line up and walk back to school so we could go home in time. So overall i think it was pretty fun and come back next week to see what else i have to write about. I couldn't really find any pictures for it otherwise i would have put some on.

Automata

 In MLH we did this thing called Automata. We only did it on wednesdays because we did it with a realever. first we had to do a plan on the first wednesday but then on the second wednesday is when we actually made the Automata's. We did it in groups of 2 and 3. 

An Automata is basically when you have a box and you have to make these things called cams. Once you did that you got a skewer and you stuck it through the center of the box. Once you did that you had to make a follower which you stick on the top of the box to make whatever you put on top spin around. We put mario on the top of ours and then we made a background for it.

After we did all that we had to pack up everything and all the cardboard bits. Then we went out for lunch time. After lunch time we all had about 30 minutes before we had to stop and show the whole class what we did. That's all for today i hope you enjoyed this blog.

Camp

 We have year six camp coming up this year. We were supposed to have already gone to it but due to coronavirus we didn't  end up going in the estimated time. Instead were going in term four week two. A few of the things we were going to do got cancelled though so that's a bit annoying but i'm still excited for it.

One of things we were going to do was staying the night at a aquarium but it got cancelled so instead were just going there to visit it. I was really excited for that part but sadly they had to cancel the sleep over there due to the safety issues or something like that.

After the aquarium sleepover we were going to head home on friday but now we're going home on late thursday. That's it for this blog if i had pictures of our plan i would show some to you but i'm not sure if there is any or not. Comment on my blog to help me to improve in my learning. 

Weekly Round Ups

 In MLH we are doing weekly round ups. It's basically just a video of everything we have been doing  in a week. I'm not till next term but that's good for me because i can't really be bothered to do it i'd rather just get on with my priorities.The people who are doing it this week are Max, Mako and Alice. 

Honestly it sounds kinda hard because you 1 make the actual video and 2 you have to record everything that people do like heaps of learning and stuff like that. I got filmed a little today but i don't really mind getting filmed because im gonna have to film a bunch of other people.

Lets just say i'm not looking forward to my weekly round up because if i don't get all my priorities done i won't be able to go to rugby and the weekly round up sounds like it takes up alot of time. Rugby

This term our school rugby started. To be honest we haven't really been winning our games but oh well at least there just grading games not actual games. Our first proper game is this week and I can't wait to see how we go. Some of the people in our team is Rori, Taika, Oska, Jackson, Angus (our captain), Max, Stavis, Cash and Kobe. There's a few more than that but I can't really think who that is right now.

But it's not about winning it's about having fun and right now it's been really fun even though we've been losing. So as long as i'm having fun i don't really mind losing but if we win then that would be great. The captain of our team is Angus because he played rugby last year so he has a bit more experience than we do.

So over all rugby is a really fun sport for me and I highly recommend playing it even though you get bashed around and stuff like that, but you just don't be scared with the ball after a while and it becomes really fun. Plus you get some nice food at the end of the game and that's also great. I hope you enjoyed this blog I didn't really know what to wright this week so I wrote this.

Learning Through Play

Ltp stands for learning through play. Here's all of the options that you can do junky monkey, makey makey and a couple more fun things to do. The one that i did was junky monkey but i didn't really like it that much. The next one that i think i'm gonna do next week is makey makey. 

Makey makey is basically when you get a bunch of wires and stuff and then you can make mini games or something like that. I had a little look at it yesterday and it looked pretty fun so thats what im going to do next week.

School holidays

In the school holidays i did this really fun surf camp that my dad did. It was basically like you went for a surf and ricardo filmed it. Once you were done surfing we went and got some lunch then watched the footage. After we watched the footage we went out for another surf but sometimes it wasn't very good but we still went out.

The last few days we went to mahia to surf blacks beach. It was really fun after the surf because we went and played in the shorey there and the shorey at blacks beach is so big and fun. I really liked it because we always went and got nice as food. It finished at 3:00. 

Then after that we just headed home for the day.

Graffiti

In our writting groups we are doing graffiti. When i say "Graffiti" I mean not real graffiti were designing our own graffiti about what we want to change in the our communitie, world or even just our school. There were a few one's that people picked like black lives matter, road safety and bullying. The one that i picked was black lives matter.

I picked black lives matter because i don't believe in racism. Also a guy named george floyd got strangled in the neck by a police and he didn't even do anything bad. So I decided to pick black lives matter. I started on doin little words and drawing little pictures to see what I would like.

Menus

In MLH we are making our own menus of the foods we like and the foods we don't like. I have finished both so far and i thought they were alright they were not to fun. I'm not sure if everyone else liked it but i thought it was alright.

For my nice foods that i liked i did Pancakes, Pizzas, Smoothies and fizzy drinks. For the foods that i hate i did Broccoli, Spring Onion, Mushroom and egg drink. The egg drink was like this raw egg thing bodybuilders drink.

Milos homemade bubbles

In MLH (moana learning hub) we are making giant bubbles. Of course we have to make our own mixtures and even make our own bubble wands out of bamboo and sticks. In our group we have already gathered all the materials for our wand. But for the actual mixture we have to tell the teachers what they need to get us, and they go and get it from the supermarket or whatever.

But we can only do it when the relievers are in class because they know more about it than our normal teachers. At first it was really hard to find the right ingredients and tell the teacher. Even when we did find a recipe it was still hard because they weren't in the supermarkets. So we just found some replacement items luckily.

Overall I can't wait to see how our group’s bubbles go. Hopefully they go good and our bubble wand goes good. You could even try this at home if you wanted to. I probably would if I had the materials.

Just dance

In my school there is this thing called just dance. It’s where you copy dances off a youtube video. I’m pretty sure it’s like a video game that’s just been recorded but it’s still pretty fun. We do it every day after morning tea. But not on fridays because it's a discovery option.

You can do it in groups of 4, 3, 2 and 1. But only MLH (Moana learning hub) does it . When we get to the hall after morning tea they tell you how many people in a group. Then we pick our groups and start. It goes for about 20 to 30 minutes everyday. When we first started it we did silent reading first (silent reading is when you just read silently) but now we just go straight to it. When we first started to not silent read before we went to the hall I thought we only did it for 10 mins but then i realized we didn’t because morning tea ends at 11:50.

After a while I get pretty tired but I just keep going and take my jumpa off. You can also just take your shoes off but I like to just take my jumpa off. Then after just dance we come back into the classroom to do steps. So overall i quite like just dance and you should try it all you gotta do is search it up on youtube and copy the dancing.

Milos lockdown journey

 It all started on the 25th of march. That was when the lockdown started. So then all the schools had to start these google meets and do this online learning thing. It was way better than learning at school because instead of the whole day it was just a few hours of school work. But it was hard to not get distracted at home but I just got on with it.

I woke up at 8:00 to 9:00 o’clock and did my work. Every day we had to fill out this google form to tell how we were feeling and tell the teachers what time we were joining the google meets. The meets were at 10:00 or 2:00. At least that was the time at the start of lockdown then it changed to 10:30 or 2:00. I had mostly joined them at 10:30 but luckily you had to mute your mic while the teachers were talking, because otherwise my baby brother would have been too loud.

Then Coronavirus started to ease off and lockdown was almost over but it was still level 3 so school wasn't started yet. After a while it went down to level 2 and before I knew it school was starting back up again. Then it was my baby brother's birthday so i didn't go back to school on monday. But i went to school on Tuesday and it was finally back to normal.

Swimming Sports

Swimming Sports

On wednesday we went to swimming sports. We went by bus and it was really fun on the way because we sang heaps of songs on the way one of them was wheels on the bus. The strokes that I did were breaststroke and freestyle.

First some of the teachers call out our names. Then we have to wait in line for our race. Once its your race you have to get up onto this diving thing then one of the teachers say ''on your marks get set" and then this buzzer goes off and you dive in. I came 3rd in my freestyle and 3rd in my breaststroke.

After awhile I finished all my races and had some food. 

Usually after all the races everyone gets free

 time in the pool but this time we didn't because we went there a little late. Then all the races finished

and we went to go get changed and lined up in our class lines. After that we got back on the bus and headed back to school. Once we got to school it was lunch and then we played until the bell rung then it was home time.

First week Back at WBS

Hi, this is my first week being back at WBS (Wainui beach school) in 2020. I'm a year 6 now but it still feels like I'm a year 5. The main things that I'm most happy about being a year 6 is I get to do school surfing and I get to go on year 6 camp. My class that I'm in this year is MLH 2 (Moana learning hub).

It's really fun because we have these groups called Buzz groups, a Buzz group is just a group of 4-5 kids and we do heaps of activities one of them was we had to walk a couple of metres with a balloon in between our legs. One of the other games we play is called Tension what you have to do is the teacher picks up a card and the card will say that we have to name ten things in a certain amount of time. 

A few days have gone past and it's already been kinda challenging but let's keep going and see what  else 2020 brings me.
